How We Apply Islamic Values
Fitra Guard is built to help Muslim families create safer digital environments through practical safeguards, clear parental controls, and values-led product decisions.
Technology with a clear purpose
“Islamic” is not a marketing label
It shapes the problems we prioritise: protecting modesty, supporting Salah and family time, helping parents act on their Amanah, and giving children age-appropriate boundaries as they grow.
Haya
We prioritise safeguards that help families reduce exposure to adult content and other material that conflicts with modesty and healthy development.
Amanah
Parents receive practical controls and clear activity signals, while reviewed community reports allow one family’s vigilance to benefit others without exposing a child’s private messages.
Salah and consistency
Salah-aware routines make prayer, bedtime, homework, and family time part of the protection system—not rules parents must repeatedly enforce by hand.
Ilm and Adab
A curated Islamic misinformation category and review path help families challenge misleading sources while recognising the need for trusted scholarship.
What this means in the product
Our values should be visible in useful product decisions—not only in the language we use to describe Fitra Guard.
- Whole-home filtering through a compatible router, plus individual child-device protection on eligible plans.
- Fixed-time, overnight, and Salah-based routines that can pause internet access or selected apps.
- Separate profiles and app or service controls for age-appropriate family boundaries.
- A curated Islamic misinformation category with a route for families to request a classification review.
- An in-app Report a Website tool that sends suspected misses and false positives to an admin-only review queue before any global policy decision.
- Allowed and blocked DNS activity insights without access to private messages or the contents of encrypted pages.
- Guided setup and human support shaped around routers commonly used by South African households.
Families helping protect other families
When a family reports a harmful site we missed—or a legitimate site they believe was blocked incorrectly—the report is reviewed before any global decision. Verified reports can strengthen protection for other Muslim households.
This is collective Amanah in practice: the Ummah helping build stronger Muslim homes, with careful review before any shared policy change.
Islamic misinformation protection
This protection is a curated collection of domains, not an automated judgment on every page, teacher, or scholar. Subscribers can use Report a Website in the Family Protection Centre when they believe a domain has been classified incorrectly.
Request a classification reviewWhat Fitra Guard is—and is not
Fitra Guard is a technical safeguarding tool. It is not a fatwa authority and does not replace attentive parenting, Islamic education, or trusted scholars.
DNS filtering reduces access to known harmful domains, but no filter can classify every new website, in-app item, or piece of content perfectly. Device settings and ongoing family conversations remain important.
Sources that guide this work
These references support the principles of family responsibility and responding wisely to harm. They do not constitute a claim of scholarly certification.
